About the Library: Borrowing
The Moorestown Library welcomes new residents and others who would like to apply for a library card. Just bring the proper I.D. to our circulation desk, complete a quick form... and you'll be able to check out books the same day! Or you can get a library card online!
How do I get a library card?
All individuals must present proof of current address. The following types of identification are accepted:
- Current driver's license
- Current tax bill, tax statement, or lease
- Current gas, electric or water bill (Cell phone bills are not accepted as proof of residence.)
Please read below for additional requirements and information on specific types of cards available.
You are entitled to a free card if you are
Moorestown Residents
Residents of Moorestown are eligible for a three-year library card, and may also request cards for the entire family (all permanent members of their household). Just bring in proof of current address as described above.
Non-resident Property Owners
Individuals who own property in Moorestown, but do not live in Moorestown, are eligible for a one-year library card. In addition to proof of current address as described above, non-resident property owners must present a current, dated Moorestown tax bill.
Moorestown Business Owners and Employees
Owners and employees of businesses in Moorestown are eligible for a one-year library card. We need a home address for mailing purposes. In addition to proof of current address as described above, Moorestown business owners must present a current tax bill or lease to prove ownership of a Moorestown business. Employees must present a current pay stub or proof of employment on company letterhead.
Non-Resident Moorestown School Employees and students
Non-resident school employees and students in Moorestown (public, private, and nursery school) are eligible for a one year courtesy card. In addition to proof of current address as described above, non-resident school employees must present an ID to verify employment by the school. The following type of identification is accepted: List supplied by the school itself, or current calendar year pay stub and photo ID. Non resident students must present a tuition bill or report card from the current calendar year or current school ID.
Non-Resident Township Employees
Individuals who are employed by Moorestown Township, but who do not reside in Moorestown, are eligible for a one-year library card. In addition to proof of current address as described above, non-resident property owners must present a current pay stub to prove township employment.
Purchasing a non-resident card
If you do not meet any of the above criteria you can still get a library card. Non-resident library cards are available for $50 per year. If you do not live in Moorestown and are only interested in using the internet, you can purchase an Internet-only library card for $15 for six months or $25 for one year. Just bring in identification with your current address.
How long may I keep the items I want to check out?
Borrowing periods vary for different materials:
- 3 days: Circuit videos (only 3 at a time)
- 7 days: Magazines (except current issues and bound volumes), circulating encyclopedias, children's holiday collection, library-owned videos
- 14 days: New books, children's audios, music CD's
- 21 days: Interlibrary loan items
- 28 days: Books (except new and reference), adult audio books, unabridged audio circuit
- Library use only: Current and bound periodicals, reference books, special collections materials
How much are overdue charges?
- Adult and children's books, audiobooks, magazines, videos and music - 20¢ per day
- Interlibrary loan - $1 per day
Maximum fines are $5 on children's and adult materials and $10 interlibrary loan items. After 28 days overdue, a bill will be sent for the cost of the item. Library privileges will be suspended when the amount of a delinquent account (including the value of overdue books and accumulated fines) reaches $10. This account must be cleared before borrowing privileges can be reinstated or the library card can be renewed. There is a replacement fee for lost, long overdue, or severely damaged materials.
Self-Checkout
Flash Scan is the "self check-out" system at the Moorestown Library. All adult and children's' books, music CD's that are part of the Library's permanent collection and all audio books are able to be used on the Flash Scan system. Our DVD and VHS collections, magazines and our rotating audio book and music CD collections must be taken to the Circulation Desk for check out by our staff.
